As Attorney General, I am Alabama's chief law enforcement officer. As such, I do not make the laws. That is for the Legislature. My job is to enforce the laws that the Legislature has written as they have been interpreted by the Supreme Court of Alabama.
Illegal gambling is a state-wide problem; it has affected Mobile County, Jefferson County, Walker County, and many more in between. When I took office in 2011, two important things had already happened. First, the Supreme Court of Alabama had already decided that the slot-machine-style game that some casinos call "electronic bingo" is not legal anywhere in Alabama. Second, all of the major gambling establishments in Alabama had shut down, except for the casinos on Indian land.
